Statement from MCRC Chairman Patrick Reilly on Jeremy Cooney’s Extreme “Earned Time Act”

“Senator Cooney’s bill is a slap in the face to every crime victim and every law enforcement officer in this state. His so-called ‘Earned Time Act’ would let violent criminals - rapists, murderers, and repeat offenders - walk free after serving just a fraction of their sentence. That’s not justice. That’s insanity.

Even worse, Cooney is pushing this during National Crime Victims’ Rights Week. Senator Cooney has aligned himself with the same extreme politicians who are attacking Rochester Police Officers for supporting federal law enforcement officers.

Monroe County residents deserve leaders who stand with victims and police, not ones who cut deals to put violent offenders back on our streets early.”
