Morelle and the Good Old Boys Club

The latest report involving Joe Morelle is yet another example of the rotten insider culture that has defined Albany and Washington for far too long: powerful men protecting powerful friends, circling the wagons when serious allegations are made, and only pretending to care when their own political future is at risk.
When a woman came forward, Joe Morelle did not show courage. He did not show leadership. He did what career insiders in the old boys’ club always do: he protected his political allies and attacked the person speaking out.
Now, years later, Morelle wants the public to believe he has had a change of heart. The truth is far simpler. Joe Morelle is not protecting victims. He is protecting himself. He is trying to cover his tracks because the political cost of his past actions is finally catching up to him.
“Joe Morelle showed exactly who he was when it mattered most, and it was not someone willing to stand up for women to the political machine,” said Peter Elder, Chairman of the Monroe County Republican Committee. “He chose to protect his allies, not do what was right. Now that he is in Washington and his own reputation is on the line, he wants voters to believe he suddenly found a conscience. No one should buy it.”
“This is not just about Joe Morelle,” Elder continued. “It is about the same old boys’ club culture that has poisoned public life from Albany to Washington. The insiders protect each other, the truth gets buried, and the public is expected to forget. Monroe County voters deserve better than another career politician who only speaks out when his own future is threatened - Virginia McIntyre is that better choice.
