“On one hand, it’s nice to see Rochester City Council finally show up to do their jobs. On the other, it’s unfortunate that when they finally make it in to work, they choose to double down on radical sanctuary laws. These new policies forbid city employees from asking about immigration status, and even threaten to punish Rochester police officers who cooperate with federal immigration authorities. This is outrageous.
Republicans stand firmly with the brave men and women of ICE and law enforcement who risk their lives every day to keep our communities safe. By siding with illegal immigrants over law-abiding families, City Council has made Rochester even less safe and invited costly lawsuits that will fall on the backs of taxpayers. The people of Rochester deserve leaders who put American citizens first, not reckless policies that undermine the rule of law."
