ABOUT JUDGE ROMEO

The Honorable Stacey M. Romeo has been a sitting Monroe County Family Court Judge since January 2017 and was designated as the Supervising Judge of Family Courts in the 7th Judicial District in January 2021. Judge Romeo also sits as an Acting Supreme Court Justice, the Monroe County Youth Part Judge and sits in various Family Courts throughout the District.

In addition to her daily supervisory and court activities, Judge Romeo is involved in numerous committees throughout the 7th Judicial District including chairing the Monroe County Child Welfare Collaborative, the Monroe County Youth Part Workgroup and the 7th Judicial District’s Family Court Alternatives to Dispute Resolution Committee where she helped author and roll-out the District’s ADR plan and piloted the 7th District’s Permanency Mediation program within her courtroom. Judge Romeo also sits on the Office of Policy and Planning Statewide Family Court Working Group, the Child Behavioral Health Resources Workgroup, the Reducing Disproportionate Minority Representation in Child Welfare Workgroup, the Administrative Judge’s Taskforce for the 7th Judicial District and the Monroe County Custody Part Operations Group. Additionally, Judge Romeo mentors new judges and is frequently asked to lecture throughout the State on matters involving Youth Part, Family Court, ADR and Judicial Ethics. Judge Romeo also is a member of the Acting Supreme Court Justices Association, the New York Women Judges Association, the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges and is a board member on the NYS Family Court Judges Association.
 
Judge Romeo was honored to have received the Power 50 Award from The Daily Record and the Rochester Business Journal in both 2022 and 2023 as a leader in the Rochester, NY legal community.
 
Previous to her time on the bench, Judge Romeo served as a Court Attorney in Monroe County Family Court and NYS Supreme Court. She also sat as a Domestic Violence, Small Claims and Matrimonial and Foreclosure Court Attorney Referees. Prior to her time in the court system, Judge Romeo sat as Town Attorney for both the Towns of Irondequoit and Pittsford and had a long career representing children and parents alike in both Family Court and matrimonial matters as well as criminal matters and general legal matters while in private practice.
 
Judge Romeo graduated with high honors from Niagara University with a bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts and then attained her master’s degree in Public Administration and a Certificate in Gerontology from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University where she later graduated from the Law School, attaining her Juris Doctorate. She is an active member of her local chapter of the Sons of Italy, the Italian American Community Center, the Italian American Sport Club, the Italian Women’s Civic League, Greater Rochester Soap Box Derby, St. Kateri School and Parish and is a Past Distinguished President of the Kiwanis Club of Irondequoit.
